The Leafs kept the Devils to only six chances through the whole game, a season best for the b&w so far. This beats the Dec.14 game vs Ottawa for lowest amount of chances this season, with both teams keeping shots mostly to the outside as they combined for just 16 scoring chances all game long. Yet this was hardly a boring game for as all three of the new acquisitions made their mark on this game. Phaneuf threw his weight around with some bodychecks and a fight within a few shifts into the game, Sjostrom got an assist on the first goal (Kulemin scored off the rebound from his shot) and did some nice work on the PK as he was on for the majority of the Leafs PK time along with Wallin, and Giguere notched the shutout in his debut with the Leafs. There was a very close call late in the 2nd period, as Jiggy made two solid saves but the puck then trickled into the crease and Christian Hanson saved a goal by clearing the puck out just before a Devil player could get to it.

Also, Poni-Bozak-Kessel all deserve kudos for creating the 2nd goal. Bozak and Poni entered the Devils' zone on a 2-on-1 odd man rush, Bozak got a nice pass through to Poni in the slot for a prime chance to score, Danis made the first save but Kessel, who'd been trailing the play and was totally uncovered, capitalized on the rebound for his 3rd goal in 2 games.
