Ex-Leafs in the NHL, 2009-10

I've put together a statistical summary of all the former Toronto Maple Leaf players and draft picks who played in the NHL in 2009-10. To qualify for this list, each player must've either played at least 1 game with the Maple Leafs previously in their career or been selected by them in the entry draft. There are several who were drafted by Toronto but never played a game as a Leaf: Brad Boyes, Shawn Thornton, and Tuukka Rask.

- All ages are prior to July 1, 2010 (start of free agency).
- Forwards and Defencemen are sorted by Point-per-Game average (Pt/GP), while Goalies are sorted by Save Percentage (SVP).
- Skaters who played 27 games or more and 26 games or less are grouped separately.
- Explanations for some of the stat abbreviations: PPP - Power-play Points, SA/60 - Shots against per 60 Minutes, ESVP - Even-Strength Save Percentage, PSVP - Save Percentage against Opponents' Power-Play.

Former collegiate prospect Robbie Earl scored 6 goals with the Minnesota Wild without recording an assist this season. With this feat, Earl tied Tiger Williams for 2nd in a unique post-WWII era* NHL record; most goals scored without an assist in a single season.

Ex-Leafs in the 2009 Playoffs

To the left: Hal Gill celebrating with the Stanley Cup. He is the first ex-Leaf to hoist the Cup since.... well, Ric Jackman and Shawn Thornton (who never played with the big league team, but was chosen in the 7th round of the 1997 entry draft and spent four years in St. John's) with Anaheim two years ago. Gill was one of the few serviceable players who signed on during the JFJ era that wasn't given a No-Trade clause, so the 11-year veteran was moved on the 2008 trade deadline day to Pittsburgh for their 2nd round draft pick in 2008 (Jimmy Hayes) and their 5th round pick in 2009 (later traded for Ryan Hollweg, ugh).

Gill and teammate Rob Scuderi finished within the top three in the NHL for most minutes played on the PK in the '09 playoffs. Scuderi played 70:28 while short-handed, the most time played by all players in the 2009 playoffs, while Gill logged 63:39 minutes of icetime on the PK. Washington's Tom Poti was 2nd with 65:45 which is incredible as he played 10 less games than Gill and Scuderi, averaging 4:41 on the PK.

Eleven ex-Leafs made appearances in the 2009 Stanley Cups, including six who were on the team last season (2007-08). Sundin, Wellwood, and Gill were the only ones who played on a team that advanced at least one round.

Below is a table of all ex-Leafs who played in the 2009 playoffs, including former draft picks who never actually played with the Toronto Maple Leafs (Brad Boyes and Shawn Thornton, the latter who seems to like to shoot the puck). Ages are prior to July 1, 2009.
